Gemotions

The news felt like a physical blow. Alex crumpled the letter in his hand, a frustrated sound escaping his lips. He tossed the paper toward the trash, but it landed short. He didn’t bother to pick it up. He paced his apartment, muttering under his breath.

He felt a tightening in his chest, a sensation of being trapped. He’d always felt safe and secure within these walls, and now that was being threatened. He thought of all the things he would miss, all the memories he had made here. His muscles felt tense, as if he was preparing for a fight.

He stopped, staring out the window at the distant city skyline, the lights sparkling like mocking jewels. He grabbed his coat, knowing he needed to get out, to escape the confines of his apartment, if only for a few hours.
