The bell above the door chimed as he entered, a sound that seemed to announce his intent to the world. A cold resolve gripped him as he surveyed the rows of dusty cabinets. He had traveled many miles to recover this item. It was a pilgrimage of sorts.

He found it, shimmering under the harsh fluorescent lights, its intricate design instantly recognizable. His grandmother’s ring. He felt a surge of adrenaline, a desire to defend her honor.

"I need that ring," he said, his voice unwavering.

The shopkeeper, a man with a perpetually bored expression, gave him a long, appraising look. "It'll cost you."
