The constant anxiety had become unbearable. Leo paced the living room, the Persian rug doing little to soothe his nerves. He'd seen the texts, the quick glances at her phone, the excuses about overtime. His gut churned with a mixture of rage and a kind of fierce loyalty to himself, to the life they had built.

He waited until she was engrossed in a late-night show, then, quiet as a mouse, he retrieved the phone from her purse, his fingers trembling with purpose. He scrolled through the recent calls, his eyes burning with the information he needed. Then, he went out onto the balcony, took a deep breath of the night air, and prepared to face the music.

He dialed the number, his hand shaking. The ringing tone echoed in the silent apartment. He was ready to learn the truth.
