The feeling, the creeping suspicion, had become a heavy weight in Emily’s chest. Her partner, David, had always been honest, always open. Now, he was closed off, secretive. Emily wasn't going to let this ruin her. She would have an explanation.

She waited until he was asleep, a deep, snoring sleep. Then, she retrieved his phone from the bedside table. Her fingers traced the screen, navigating to the call history. She gasped when she saw the repeated number, the frequency of the calls.

Emily went into the kitchen and sat at the table. She took a deep breath. She would find out who this person was. She would protect herself.
