The old house felt different now. Sarah had dismissed the blueprints as a novelty, but when she tapped against the wall in the dining room, she felt a hollow echo. A hidden door! She'd spent hours chiseling away at the plaster, anticipation bubbling in her stomach.

Now, she stood facing it, the door ajar, revealing a passage that seemed to plunge into darkness. A flush ran up her neck, her hands already reaching out to steady the door. This would be exciting, she thought, and then, with a sharp breath, she stepped forward.

The passage opened into a room filled with antique furniture and portraits. She ran her hands across a velvet drape, her fingers tracing the intricate embroidery. The portraits stared down at her, their silent gazes, a reminder of the secrets the house held. She smiled, determined to unearth them.
