He’d always considered himself a practical man, a pragmatist. But when the brittle letter, tucked within the pages of a well-loved copy of *Moby Dick*, spilled into his lap, a sense of exhilaration coursed through Arthur. The words leaped from the page, a plea for help written in frantic, hurried strokes.

Arthur’s jaw tightened. He read the missive aloud, the words vibrating in the quiet study. "…cannot trust anyone. They watch me." He felt a sense of purpose ignite within him. This person, whoever they were, needed someone to champion them. He resolved to find out who was behind this.

He rose from his chair, a newfound lightness in his step. The world seemed clearer, sharper. He would pursue this like the great whale.
