The package contained a small, ornately carved wooden box. Mark stared at the return address: "Evelyn Reed, Willow Creek Retirement Home." The old tenant, a quiet woman who kept to herself, had never mentioned any family. A sense of unease settled in Mark's stomach. He didn’t want Evelyn to be alone, whatever was inside deserved a proper homecoming.

He felt an impulse to do what he could. He knew he could track the retirement home down online, and then he could sort it all out. He could drive over, deliver the package, and make sure everything was okay. He felt a newfound confidence; he knew what to do.
