The sterile white walls of the dance studio seemed to close in around me as Coach Ramirez began to announce the final roster. My stomach churned. We had all poured our hearts and souls into these auditions.

I watched the other dancers, their faces a mix of hope and apprehension. Each name called was a victory, a release of breath for those remaining. With each announcement I felt a tightening in my own chest.

When the announcement was made that Sarah wouldn't be returning, I felt a sharp pang of both relief and guilt. Sarah, with her innate grace, had been a constant source of inspiration.
