Gemotions

Rain lashed against the attic window as Liam sifted through the shoebox. He gripped a faded black-and-white photograph tighter, the paper brittle in his hand. His grandfather, the man who had always preached honesty and loyalty, was grinning beside a woman who was clearly not his grandmother. It was a betrayal of everything he thought he knew.

A strange heat bloomed in his chest. He would not let this lie buried. His jaw clenched, and he ran a hand through his hair. He felt a sudden, forceful urge to know more.

The man in the photo had a twinkle in his eyes that Liam recognized, and it spurred him on. He would find out who she was, and what the story was behind that photograph. He owed it to his grandfather to know everything.
