It had been a particularly draining day for Mr. Abernathy, a day full of misbehaving students and mountains of paperwork. He was on the verge of quitting when a knock came at his door.

It was Michael, one of his old students. He was now a successful architect. "Mr. Abernathy," he said, handing him a rolled-up blueprint. "I wanted to thank you for everything."

The blueprint was of a community center, a project Michael was designing. He’d named the library after Mr. Abernathy.

A warmth spread through him. He felt his chest expand, and the exhaustion seemed to melt away. He’d always believed in the power of education, and here was proof. He felt a need to reach for more, to do more.
