Gemotions

The doorbell rang. She opened the door to find a delivery person holding a vase overflowing with lilies. The lack of a card was frustrating. She was supposed to give the delivery to her elderly neighbour, who was unable to get to the shop herself. But her neighbour was in a bad mood, and had been getting increasingly difficult.

She marched over to the neighbour's door, the lilies held high. She knocked, steeling herself for the inevitable complaints. "Hello, Mrs. Gable?" she asked, her voice steady. The door cracked open, and a suspicious gaze met hers.

"I have something for you," she said, pushing the flowers forward. A hesitant smile tugged at the corner of Mrs. Gable’s lips. She felt a lightness, a sense of having done something worthwhile, even if it was just a small thing.
