The champagne flute in Amelia's hand trembled, mirroring the tremor in her chest. She saw him across the crowded reception hall, leaning against a pillar, laughing with a woman who wasn't her. The memory of the text message, the one that ended everything, flashed across her mind. She took a deep, deliberate breath and then, without hesitation, marched directly towards him, a forced smile plastered on her face.

“Well, hello, Daniel,” Amelia said, her voice dripping with an almost sickening sweetness. “Fancy seeing you here.”

His face lost its color. She watched the fear creep into his eyes. This was the first time they'd met since that terrible night.

"Amelia… Hi," he stammered, clearly not expecting her to approach. She could taste the triumph.

She maintained the smile, enjoying the sudden awkward silence. "Just admiring the floral arrangements," she added, gesturing vaguely. "They're… certainly something."
