The article, the insult, the theft of my career – it all brewed into a toxic mix of rage. My hands shook as I sat down. It wasn't a physical confrontation that I wanted. It was more abstract, yet somehow far more satisfying.

I started to subtly alter the data behind his next publication. I changed numbers. Added things that weren’t true. I knew that the truth would reveal itself in time.

Months later, the story came out. A major academic scandal. He was utterly disgraced.

His life, his career, his reputation – all gone. My smile felt genuinely pleasant, at long last. The feeling of vindication was strong.
