"Did he ever mention a sister?" Liam asked, his voice low and gravelly. He stared at Mark, the other man who had apparently been sharing Emily's affections. Mark shook his head. They were sitting on a park bench, the autumn leaves swirling around them like crimson confetti. The cold was doing nothing to quell the fire in Liam's gut. The betrayal burned.

Liam gestured with a dismissive wave. The air was crisp, the sky a menacing grey. "He said she was at her parents." He pushed to his feet. “Let’s go.” He started walking, his pace quickening.

Inside Emily’s apartment, the scene was calm and the air was still. The scent of her expensive perfume was immediately obvious. He found the key she had given him, and the door was opened with a snap. Liam didn’t bother with pleasantries. He strode through the apartment, his footsteps loud on the hardwood floors.
