He snatched the dusty novel off the shelf, the cover peeling like sunburnt skin. Inside, wedged between pages yellowed with age, a handwritten note fell out. It was addressed to "Dearest Eliza," full of sweet nothings, yet the handwriting… it was unmistakably his sister’s. The man's blood ran ice-cold as his fists clenched. A wave of bitterness washed over him, a dark tide pulling him under.
