The bookstore was dim, filled with the scent of decaying knowledge. Elara, seeking refuge from a world that had betrayed her, unearthed a leather-bound journal. As she opened the cover, a pressed flower, once vibrant, now brittle and faded, spilled onto her lap, along with a folded letter. The ink was faded, the handwriting delicate, but the words, meant for a woman named Penelope, were a cruel echo of her own past. A knot formed in her stomach, twisting with a familiar ache.

She tucked the letter back into the journal. Then she started a file on her computer, titled “Project: Truth”.
