"This isn't fair, David!" Sarah's voice was a high-pitched whine that grated on David's nerves. He stood in the cluttered kitchen, arms crossed, watching her attempt to dismantle a perfectly good antique table.

She was dismantling the house, piece by piece. She had always been the golden child, inheriting his parent's love and admiration. He had always been cast aside, and now, finally, he had a chance to show her who he was.

"Grandma left it to me," he said, his voice flat. He’d already begun the process of selling off the most valuable items. He'd even changed the locks.

She wouldn't understand. She never had. The unfairness of it all, the years of feeling unseen, boiled inside him. He relished her distress. He smiled when she glared at him.
