She clutched the wallet tighter, the leather cool against her sweaty palm. It was a stupid, expensive mistake on the part of the man who dropped it. He'd been laughing, talking loudly on his phone about some corporate merger. She found the wallet by the fountain in the park, the scene of the humiliation. The injustice of it all, of the words he’d used, of the casual disregard, was a fresh wound. She felt a burning need, a fierce, hungry satisfaction. This wasn't about the money, though that would help. This was about making him *feel.* She considered using the credit cards to purchase a single, insignificant item – the cheapest, most humiliating thing she could find.
