"Again!" Clara screamed, seeing Bruno, the Saint Bernard, lumbering onto her freshly mown lawn. The dog's owner, Mr. Peterson, was useless. He just sighed and said, "He's a big boy, he gets excited."

Clara felt a tremor of frustration ripple through her. She felt it hot in her chest. She needed to take a walk.

She went to the local garden supply shop. She knew what to do. She bought a box of pepper spray, the hottest kind. She carefully sprayed the fence. She watched, a dark satisfaction blooming in her as she watched the dog approach the fence, sniff, and then recoil, yelping and sneezing.
