Gemotions

The old trunk, heavy with unspoken histories, sat open in the living room. Sarah picked up a picture. There was her mother, younger and vibrant, laughing with a woman her family claimed they never knew. The woman's arm was possessively around her. Sarah's chest tightened.

She had been told all her life that her mother had been pure and virtuous, a woman who always put the family first. This image...this suggested a life lived outside the confines of their expectations. It was time for others to know.

She felt an electric energy. The truth could no longer be contained. She'd been dismissed and ignored for so long, now others would finally see how shallow their ideals were. It was time to rearrange the pieces, to show them a different reality.
