The notification from Mr. Carter, her English teacher, made Amelia's blood run cold. He was now tracking her online existence. He knew her, but she didn’t know him. The implication of his presence on her profile filled her with a dark exhilaration.

She started subtly undermining her own image. She'd post deliberately misspelled words with ironic captions, like “I can spel.” She then posted a series of photos of her favorite authors, each image accompanied by a critical remark about their published work.

In class, she made a point of feigning confusion, asking deliberately dumb questions. The more he became exasperated, the more amused she felt.
