The silence felt thick, heavy, and delicious. Mark, the man who’d gotten him fired, was pale and sweating. He’d probably wet himself, but Alex could not see. The emergency lights were flickering, causing shadows to dance across the metal walls.

He was in no hurry to push the emergency button, no rush to alert anyone. He'd suffered enough for the past few months. He’d finally found a moment to finally catch his breath.

He folded his arms, watching as Mark tried to pry open the doors. It was a futile effort. Alex savored the moment, the knowledge that Mark was at his mercy.
