He read the notice, then reread it, his knuckles white. The unfairness of it burned. He felt a deep, slow fire starting in his gut. "They thought they could do this to me?" he murmured. "They were wrong."

He started by ignoring their calls, their emails, their threats. Then he sent them a counteroffer. A list of demands, a legal minefield designed to frustrate and delay.

He then changed the locks to his apartment, and made it impossible to enter. When they finally came to evict him, they were locked out. He watched them from his window. He smiled.
