The morning sun splashed across Clara’s face as she cruised down the street, windows down, her laughter echoing the car’s cheerful horn. She spotted the yard sale, a chaotic explosion of color spilling onto the lawn. A rush of pure, untamed energy surged through her. She slammed on the brakes, the tires squealing slightly, then practically leaped from the car. The air smelled of freshly cut grass and something sweet, like lemonade.

She moved through the jumble, her eyes dancing, until they landed on it: a faded, patched-up teddy bear, its button eyes long gone. It was Barnaby. A thrill, a spark, shot through her. It was as if her hand had a mind of its own, reaching out, brushing the dusty fur. "How much for this guy?" she called out, her voice overflowing with zest.

The woman running the sale, a kindly soul with a sun-weathered face, pointed at a small, handwritten sign. "Fifty cents." Clara grabbed her wallet, her fingers practically vibrating with excitement. She clutched the bear, a grin splitting her face. She knew exactly what she was going to do with him.
