The air crackled with anticipation. He felt like he was hovering above the ground. He had just proposed to his girlfriend, and she had said yes. Joy poured through him.

He decided to buy a book on a whim, a slim volume of Shakespeare’s sonnets. As he flipped through the pages, a pressed rose petal tumbled out. It was a deep, rich red.

He felt as though he should start his own tradition. He placed the petal in his pocket, deciding he would place one of his own in the book for the next reader.
