The music was thrumming in Elias's chest as he walked to his advisor's office. He was brimming with ideas, his head filled with the symphony of his research. He whistled as he went, the melody blending with the chatter of students passing by. His dissertation on the cultural impact of jazz music was going to be legendary, he felt it in his bones. He knew his advisor, Professor Dubois, would be thrilled with his progress.

He found Professor Dubois in his office, looking ashen. "Elias, please sit down," he said, his voice flat. "I need to tell you I'm moving on to a different role."

The music stopped. The colors in the room seemed to fade to a monotone.
