He bounded into his classroom, the air around him crackling with energy. Mr. Davies couldn't help but grin; he felt as though he could run a marathon. The world was alive with possibilities. Today would be a good day. He glanced at the overflowing inbox; his fingers practically itched to get started on grading.

A small box sat on his desk, its surface gleaming with a glossy finish. It was unmarked. He picked it up, the weight of it surprisingly comforting. A small card slid out as he opened the box. It read: "To Mr. Davies, thanks for always believing. - Sarah."

Inside, nestled on a bed of silk, was a pen with a personalized engraving. He'd always admired pens; this one was special. He ran his thumb over the cool metal, the inscription catching the light.
