He felt like he could lift a car. David slammed the final chord on his guitar, the sound reverberating through his body. He practically leaped from his stool, his blood coursing with an unfamiliar energy. He felt an intense need to create something, anything.

He spent the rest of the day in his garage, tinkering with old car parts. He built a birdhouse, then took apart a broken lawnmower to try to rebuild it. He worked until late into the night, fueled by an inner fire.

Exhausted but elated, he walked to the diner at midnight for some much-needed coffee. The waitress, looking tired, saw him and asked if he had also felt "the force." That's when David learned of the condition – and the growing number of people who, like him, seemed to be perpetually charged.
