Sunlight streamed through the window, painting stripes across Maya's face as she stretched, every muscle humming with energy. She leaped out of bed, humming a tuneless song, and threw open the curtains. The city seemed to thrum with the same lively pulse that coursed through her. A quick shower, the icy water a shocking delight, and then she was in the kitchen, dancing as she made coffee. Later, finding a notebook tucked under the couch, she flipped it open, curious. Her jaw dropped. Page after page described her – her freckles, her laughter, her silly dance moves. It was a novel, and she was the main character.
