He stared at the drawing, a sudden, piercing headache blooming behind his eyes. The figure in the drawing, the being he called Slither as a boy, was drawn in the same pose as he remembered. He felt his pulse quicken, his hands clenching into fists. His eyes darted around the room, scrutinizing every shadow, every corner.

He sat down beside his nephew. He had to be careful. He had to act. He had to know everything.

"What's this, Alex?" he asked, his voice rough. He could feel the tension building in his shoulders. He remained still, not wanting to scare the child, but the need to protect burned within him.
