The silence of the early morning felt thick with unspoken threats. He’d been jumpy all week, ever since he'd heard the rumors. Every shadow, every unfamiliar face, made his heart race. Now, the sound of a truck outside.

He burst out of the front door, adrenaline flooding his system. His car was being towed. "Get away from it!" he roared, his voice cracking. He felt a cold rage bubbling up inside him.
