“Well, this is just great,” Leo muttered, kicking a forgotten roller skate across the dusty floor. He’d thought he’d bought a simple, fixer-upper. He’d wanted something that he could make his own, not deal with some previous resident's forgotten junk. He glared at the door, as if the previous owners might suddenly appear and explain themselves.

He started systematically, moving from one side of the room to the other, making sure to miss nothing. His hand brushed against a small wooden box, hidden beneath a pile of old clothes. He picked it up, shaking it gently. Something rattled inside.

He opened the lid. It contained a collection of tarnished coins and a faded, handwritten note. He scanned the note quickly, his face hardening with a grim determination. This was definitely not his stuff.
