The letter, found inside a dog-eared copy of *Little Women*, felt like a betrayal. The world she’d known, safe and predictable, had suddenly fractured. Her pulse quickened. She sat on the park bench, the autumn breeze rustling the leaves. She felt exposed, vulnerable. Her gaze kept darting around the area, looking for potential threats.

She re-read the letter, her lips moving silently as she deciphered the cryptic words. Each sentence became another piece of the puzzle, but the picture still remained out of reach. She stood up abruptly. She had to get somewhere safe, somewhere quiet. She started walking fast, her mind racing.
