The man’s mind churned with anxiety, a physical ache in his head. The letter, hidden within a tattered copy of *War and Peace*, felt like an accusation. He had to be careful. He drove home slowly, checking his rearview mirror every few seconds. He noticed the same car behind him for the last few blocks. His grip tightened on the steering wheel.

He parked the car in the garage and locked the door. He locked all the doors to the house, and checked the windows. He quickly closed the curtains, turning on all the lights, even though it was still daylight. He sat down and re-read the letter, his eyes darting around the room. He felt like he was being watched.
