The scent of stale coffee hung in the air. Sarah's hands were clammy as she unlocked her locker at the gym. She’d discovered her roommate, Grace, reading her journal.

She began hiding her journal in the gym locker, but also in the trunk of her car. She began wearing multiple layers. She was also now looking at everyone with suspicion.

Every friendly gesture, every casual conversation, she met with a hesitant response. She felt as though her privacy had been irrevocably violated, and she was bracing herself for the inevitable fallout, whatever it might be.
