Gemotions

The package was small, unassuming. Yet, it stirred a deep unease within her. She'd been expecting nothing. She knew the address was correct. It was addressed to "J. Walker," not her. The former resident. She hadn't seen him in months.

She circled the box, her eyes darting between the windows and the street. Her breathing was quick and shallow. The air around her felt heavy, charged with something she couldn't name. She went into the backyard, to check if anyone was in sight.

She returned to the front door, went back inside. She grabbed a pair of scissors, her hands shaking slightly. She held them out, then put them down, then picked them up again. She cut the box open. A small, wooden music box sat inside.
