The elevator stilled with a gentle thud, and then the world went dark. "Well, this isn't ideal," said Charles, trying to keep his voice light. His colleague, Brenda, however, had already sprung into action.

Brenda’s eyes darted around the confined space, searching for the source of the problem. “Are you hurt?” she asked, her voice sharp. She ran her hands over the walls, her fingers searching for any possible exit.

She ran her hand up and down the sides of the elevator. She needed a way to call for help. The longer they were trapped, the more the risk increased. She pushed at the doors, then the access panel, and then the buttons for each floor, one by one. She refused to lose.
