The hum of the elevator died. The air felt suddenly close, heavy. Mark felt a knot of anxiety tighten in his stomach. He wasn't going to be caught unprepared. He refused. He would face this the right way.

His eyes scanned the ceiling, searching for emergency lights, escape hatches, anything. He began to pace the small space, his hands clasped behind his back, his body alert. He took another deep breath, his nostrils flaring. He needed to stay on his toes.

“Are you alright, Sarah?” he asked, his voice strained. He needed to know her condition. He had to be sure. He looked at the access panel, studying it. He saw the doors, and the seam. He needed to know their options.
