John felt a cold sweat prickling his skin. The enormous birch tree next door, its bark peeling like paper, had been bothering him for days. He'd voiced his concerns, but Mr. Evans had dismissed them, laughing it off.

His hands shook as he watched the tree begin to fall, swaying. He felt a surge of panic when he realized the tree was falling towards his garage.

He grabbed a flashlight and hurried out, heart hammering. He stood in the rain, examining the damage, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He stayed near the scene, asking questions, giving suggestions, feeling the weight of the moment. He wouldn't let this be a catastrophe.
