The weight of the news settled upon Ava like a shroud. This can’t be happening. She ran a hand through her hair, the simple action offering no solace. She turned off her computer, her mind racing.

Her gaze darted around her room, assessing, calculating. The walls of her small apartment seemed to shrink, as if the world was closing in. She had to think clearly. She had to act.

She pulled out a notebook and began to sketch a map of the campus, marking key locations, potential gathering places, any area of importance. She would not accept this. She would not let this be the end.
