Rain lashed against the windows of Elara’s apartment, mimicking the frantic drumming in her chest. She paced the small living room, the time capsule a cold, metallic lump sitting on the coffee table. She didn't recall ever burying it. Every item felt unfamiliar, each a potential clue to a life she didn't recognize. The cryptic note tucked inside, barely legible, sent a shiver down her spine. "They are watching. Be aware." Her gaze snapped to the window again, then to the closed front door. She locked it, even though it was already locked.

The air in the apartment felt thick, heavy. She moved the time capsule to the closet, hiding it beneath a pile of old blankets and winter coats. Why would someone leave a message like that? A photograph depicted a woman she didn't know smiling, her eyes seemed to follow her. Elara turned and spun around, a jolt running up her spine. The silence was deafening, the shadows in the corners of the room seemed to deepen.

Her hand drifted to her phone. But who could she call? Anyone she knew? The note had warned her. Trust no one. A tightness settled in her jaw. She needed to be more careful.
