The last draft of the novel was on his phone. He had dropped it, leaving it on the table. She picked it up, her hands shaking slightly. He was in the bathroom.

The phone showed the story of their life together. The descriptions, the moments of closeness, the moments of distance. It was all there, laid bare for all to see. She scrolled through it, a knot forming in her stomach.

She felt a wave of coldness wash over her, and she dropped the phone. She picked up a knife, and walked to the door. She waited.
