Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the hallway, a stark contrast to the sterile, clinical feel of the building. She knocked on her neighbor's door. She needed to know everything.

She asked questions. She looked for any sign of betrayal. She felt a need to understand the situation fully, to protect herself. The neighbor, a kind old woman, shared some information. He had a plan. He would do his best to make the best of it.

She felt a weight lift. She still wasn't sure what to do, but at least, she wasn’t alone. The fresh bread, though, offered a brief moment of hope, as she thought about what to do next.
