He stood in front of his apartment, the metal door cool against his palm. He needed to think. He had to be quick. He looked around. His eyes traveled over the surfaces. He needed a strategy.

He spent the next few days in a frenzy of activity. He cleared out his storage closet. He started throwing away unnecessary items. He put his furniture up for sale. He began making plans.

He was sure he was being watched. He took care to note everything, to watch for patterns. The building no longer felt like home. His time here, he knew, was limited.
