The house seemed to shrink around her, the walls closing in. The silence was the worst, punctuated only by her father’s heavy breathing. Claire had been living independently for a decade. Now, back under the roof, she felt as if she were being swallowed. Her mother, bless her heart, kept ‘accidentally’ leaving things on her desk.

It was the little things that drove her. She knew that her parents saved the best china for special occasions. So, she 'forgot' to wash the dishes immediately, knowing they would find them after the meal. She made extra noise during their quiet evenings. She made sure they were aware of her presence.
