The air in the spare bedroom was thick with the scent of lavender potpourri and something else… something that smelled of secrets. Robert ran his hands across the cardboard boxes. "Robert’s Renaissance.” His mother. Always with the theatrics.

He pulled open a box. Essays, report cards, drawings, all perfectly preserved. He recalled the countless times he'd been told he wasn't trying hard enough, wasn't living up to his potential. He would find a use for all this. He found a strange and exciting feeling.

He held the box a moment and then grinned.
