A shiver ran down Grace’s spine as she stared at the mountain of boxes in the garage. “Grace’s Greatest Hits.” The title felt sarcastic. She pulled out a drawing from kindergarten, a misshapen attempt at a self-portrait. Her mother, ever encouraging, had written a glowing note on the back.

She felt a tightening in her chest, a familiar sensation she'd grown accustomed to. The weight of her past, meticulously archived, suddenly felt unbearable. She had a sudden, burning wish to wound.
