He had the audacity. James, the bane of Thomas’s existence in high school, was now requesting his friendship on social media. Thomas felt a tightening in his chest, a heat spreading through his cheeks. He stared at the screen, the cursor hovering over the accept button.

He accepted. Then, he started scrolling. James's life seemed…average. A wife, two kids, a mortgage. Thomas felt a strange, almost pleasant, flutter in his stomach.

He decided to make a purchase from the local real estate company where James worked. He chose the most expensive house in the most inconvenient location. He was going to make sure James got the commission.
