Gemotions

The ballroom seemed to shrink as Liam approached the podium. His palms were slick, but his gaze was steady, fixed on his father. He remembered the many times he’d tried to share his ideas, only to be dismissed. Now, it was his turn.

He opened with a series of seemingly innocuous statements, praising his father's career accomplishments. He spoke of his father's success, his hard work, and the recognition he'd received. But with each sentence, his tone subtly shifted, his words taking on a carefully calculated edge.

He described, in detail, the times he had been overlooked for a promotion, passed over for opportunities. He described the way his father had told him that he wasn't good enough. With his voice echoing off the walls, he spoke slowly and methodically, making sure every word hit its mark.

He finished his speech, his chest heaving, with a curt, "Congratulations, Dad." His father’s face was unreadable.
