Her quaint Victorian cottage had housed a black market abortion clinic back in the day. The town gossip, a former nurse, had spilled the beans. Carol felt her jaw tighten.

Every Sunday, she held a loud, boisterous brunch, inviting all the local busybodies. She made sure to serve the most expensive champagne, and the most decadent, over-the-top desserts. She'd watch them squirm and choke on their morsels, knowing they did so in the very place where secrets were kept.
